VAUHTI TOQUES are designed and made in Finland by professionals who themselves are skiers, runners and orienteerers.   And national level athletes, who know the importance of a good toque/hat, have tested them.

The Vauhti toques and hats are made of the highest quality fabrics such as acrylic and FinnWool/merino wool and modified polypropylene.  Synthetic materials are especially suitable for hard workouts and racing. Wool is warm and comfortable even when wet and work especially well for recreational use and as a warm-up toque, and as a cold weather racing toque.

MATERIALS:

High quality 100% ring-spun acrylic micro yarns, merino-acrylic 50/50% combination yarn (when wet or sweaty even the treated pure wool may stretch or shrink a little) are used in Vauhti toques. Also the modern modified polypropylene yarn can be found in the latest Vauhti toques. In the lining we use either the permanently anti-microbial Bioactive Trevira Micro knitting or hydrophobic polypropylene knitting.

Vauhti Team

Vauhti is a very light, “snug”, comfortable toque for any winter going, Excellent for fitness skiers, runners and racers. Feels warm and dries very fast.

100% heat processed acrylic. Team design with logos on sides is especially made for teams, who want to sew the team crest on the forehead of the toque.

SKI

These are light, low cut, warm and un-shrinkable. Ski is a very popular toque, which opens from the top and can be used also as face or neck gaiter.

KOLI

Light, snug, low cut toque, especially designed for hard going. This toque always feels dry and warm against the forehead. A special elastic PA-elastene filament knitted with the pattern improves the fit and keeps the toque always “in place”. The lining is made of hydrophobic Polycolon knitting.

 GLOSSARY OF TOQUE MATERIALS

ACRYLIC

Acrylic is synthetic fiber, which has “wool-like” feeling. It is soft, warm, lightweight, machine washable, fast drying and long wearing. It resists shrinkage and stretching. It does not itch. It is the best material for light racing toques.

Coolmax

A DuPont trademark. This high performance, four channel polyester fiber is engineered to move moisture and speed up evaporation

WOOL

Wool is a natural fiber. It's warm and durable and it has excellent insulating properties. Finnsheep, Merino, Oxford down, Dorset and Texel wool are the finest quality. The best wool does not itch. It is shrink-treated and will hold it’s shape and size.

When wet or sweaty even the treated pure wool may stretch a little.

Fine merino wool used in Vauhti toques traps a large amount of air inside the yarns, because of the tightly crimped fine fiber. Therefore it is warm, springy and durable (when maintained right) and it has excellent insulating properties and breathability. It feels soft and does not itch. It has good temperature regulation, moisture control and inherent anti-microbial properties. It may absorb ca. 40% moisture of it’s weight, but feels warm even when wet. It is shrink-treated to hold its shape and size.

POLYAMIDE

Polyamide, nylon is used because of its versatility and inherent properties: lightweight, smooth, strong and fairly quick drying.

POLYESTER

This synthetic fibre is resilient, machine washable and fast drying. It is strong and durable. It is used today’s technical outerwear (High Tech Micro fabrics, CoolMax, Sympatex).

POLYPROPYLENE

Polypropylene (Polycolon) is THE material for technical underwear. It is very light, durable, machine washable (can be washed in +60C-+80C). It is hydrophobic material and dries very fast. It has low thermal conductivity and it is capable of sustaining warmth without condensation. Therefore it very suitable for thermal and health underwear. It feels soft, “silky” and comfortable.

The modern modified polypropylene is an excellent material for technical sportswear. It is extremely light, hydrophobic - does not absorb any moisture - and dries in a dash! It is very durable and machine washable in hot temperatures (can be washed in +60C), which makes it very hygienic.  It has low thermal conductivity and it is capable of sustaining warmth without condensation. It feels warm and comfortable against the even most sensitive skin.

Vauhti polypropylene toques have permanent anti-bacterial treatment.

(Poly)Acrylic Micro yarns have a wool-like feeling. They are lightweight, economical, soft, warm, machine washable and durable.  They have excellent "colour-fasted-ness". They do not itch and they are non-allergenic. They have good insulating properties. Ring-spun acrylic micro yarns used in Vauhti toques “trap air” and absorb only 1-2% of their weight in moisture and dry very fast. They are resilient, resist shrinkage and stretching. They reject bacteria and are very hygienic. They are an excellent material for light-weight Nordic ski toques.

Bioactive Trevira Micro lining

Trevira Micro filament fabrics are made of the finest and lightest yarns available. Trevira Micro lining feels very soft and full and warm. It is functional and very durable.  It protects against wind and cold weather. It is breathable, transmits water vapour and regulates moisture, is easy-care and hygienic (permanently anti-microbial). It has excellent dimensional stability and colour fastness. It is used in high quality Vauhti wool-acrylic ski toques.
