Experience Vauhti

Vauhti is one of the oldest wax brands in the world. The first Vauhti waxes were manufactured in 1937 and the larger commercial scale production began in 1945. And true to its name, Vauhti is still going strong!

The corner stone of the Vauhti business is based on innovative product development, (Teho grips and Fox Gel Fluor Polymer Emulsions for example) thorough field testing through our Vauhti Service Team, co-operation with the best available specialists in research of chemical technology and with many of the best skiers in the world.

At Vauhti we have a very personal relationship with skiing. Many of our personnel have been active racers, and the head of Product Development, Aki Karvonen, is a triple Olympic and triple World Championships medal winner. Today we are proud supporters of many national ski teams and numerous junior aged skiers.

We have dedicated ourselves to uncompromised quality. We also believe that good quality includes not only the product itself, but also in the knowledge of how and when to use it in the most effective way. Vauhti's new website is designed to help and to teach users of Vauhti products.

Easy application and better performance:

We want to keep waxing as simple and easy as possible – there is no mysticism or magic in it! This principle can be seen, for instance, in the introduction of the Quick and Easy Speed Gel universal liquid fluor glider and Quick-Grip Waxes for recreational skiers. Speed Gel is also an excellent glider for alpine skis and snowboards.

If you have any questions or problems with waxing please feel free to contact us or any of our representatives in different parts of Canada. We shall be glad to serve you. To put simply, we practice what we preach!

Enjoy the winter with the perfect kick and extra speed from Vauhti!

Vauhti Product Development

Vauhti is one of the oldest ski wax brands in the world. The first Vauhti ski waxes were manufactured in 1937. Commercial scale production began in 1945. Initially, the product development was largely based on practical experience, field testing , and trial and error. The selection of raw materials was limited to tar, pine resin, whale oil and paraffin being the most used.

The rapid development and evolution of skis also dictated the corresponding development in waxing technology. The subsequent decades saw the increasing introduction of new products, with enhanced functionality. However, it was only after skate skiing was officially recognized and accepted that waxing technology made great advances. This further accelerated the introduction of the revolutionary fluorocarbons as a raw material in 1985.

Practical testing has remained a cornerstone of product development. It is still today the best and most reliable way to measure the functionality of the finished product in different conditions. The development and design of waxes has changed substantially over the last sixty years.

Today, Vauhti's product development work begins with the study and research of the basic raw materials. This ground laying work aids in the proper selection and design of the materials to fit the specific finished product with the best-suited raw materials. This early developmental stage enables the elimination of impure or otherwise incompatible raw materials.

The utilized infrared spectroscopy based research method allows the "finger printing" of each raw material under study as well as the finished products. With this method, the comparison of raw materials with products in development and finished products is dependable and accurate. Attributes that can thus be compared and studied include the type and amount of impurities, viscosity, the degree of fluor impregnation in fluorinated waxes, fluor types, etc.

The product development progresses past the laboratory work to practical testing which is done in various locations in the world. The testing is carried on both man made and natural snow in all conditions using the Vauhti testing team as well as the members of various national team skiers.

In cooperation with VTT Chemical Technology, a research unit in the legendary Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT), Vauhti utilizes the very latest in scientific know-how and equipment, ranging from basic research all the way to the creation of brand new products.
