The normal body temperature is ca. 37 degrees Celsius. This temperature can safely vary by only max. 3-4 degrees. A fever of 41 degrees is highly dangerous. Likewise, a 34 degrees body temperature for a longer period can be fatal. These are narrow margins considering that the body produces 1000 Watts per hour during heavy activity. We need only 25% of this energy for the activity itself; the rest we must be able to discharge or elliminate.

90% of the heat regulation of a person occurs through the skin while only 10% is regulated by breathing, convection and radiation. For this action nature has supplied us with perspiration glands. If breathing is not sufficient enough to regulate body heat, the perspiration glands will be activated. Perspiration initially is in vapor form and later as a liquid. It evaporates on the skin and cools the body. By this action surplus body heat is transferred from the surface of the skin.

During heavy activity the body can produce one to two litersof sweat.

FinnSvala underwear is made of Polycolon yarns, a hydrophobic material, which transfers the moisture quickly and effectively away from the body into absorbent layers. Even during extreme activity, either sport or work, FinnSvala Polycolon underwear does not cling to the body. It also prevents the "post exercise chill", the uncomfortable cooling down in wet underwear. The body not only stays warm, but is also much more efficient.

• Polycolon is spun from modified heat-treated hydrophobic polypropylene fibers (highest surface expansion of all fibers) and it does not absorb moisture.

• A Polycolon garment aids the transportation of moisture from the body into an absorbent outside layer (where moisture evaporates) and it acts as a moisture conducting safety grid between the wet outside and the dry inside.

Polycolon has the lowest specific weight (0.91 g/m3) of all textile fibers and it is 41% lighter than cotton.

Polycolon is a spun-dyed yarn and has therefore the best color durability. It can be handled with up to 100ºC hot air or ironing temperature and washed in 90 degrees temperature, if there is no other less heat tolerant fibers in the fabric/garment.

Polycon fibers have also special anti-bacterial treatment. Protection against micro-organisms is built into the fibers (into the material itself). This special treatment prevents development of bacteria and bad odors they can cause - and it cannot be washed out.

Polycolon fibers raw material consists exclusively of carbon and hydrogen and is considered as environmentally friendly. Because of their chemical formula Polycolon fibers do not create any allergic reactions and they are very friendly to the skin. (For this reason Polycolon products are also very suitable for nursing home and hospital textiles.)

Polycolon garments can be recycled. They do not cause problems on the refuse deposit or when burned.
