This is what Jack Sasseville thinks about skiking...

Do you love to xc ski skate, but don’t like to roller ski? Are you looking for some great exercise that is easy on your body and fun to do?

Then you should try Skikes! Skikes are fun, easy to do and safe. They are a way of xc ski skating in the summer. Skiking can also be done without ski poles and they can help you to skate better.

The true value of Skikes is that, because of the wide, inflatable wheels, Skiking can be done on all road surfaces. They roll over cracks and bumps and pebbles with ease. They can even be used on gravel paths and railway trails.

The other great thing about Skikes is that they have brakes. So, no matter the terrain or the situation you will be able to stop and be safe.

Skiking can be done using your regular footwear, so there is no need to buy special boots. However, we recommend using footwear that gives ample support for your ankles. This is especially important for beginners. If you are using xc ski poles they will need to be adapted with roller ski tips that are made to grip on asphalt.

Hardwood Ski and Bike is an authorized Skike dealer. We carry a full line of Skikes, Skike parts and accessories and protective equipment. Hardwood is also the best place for you to xc ski, snowshoe, mountain bike or trail run. We have great trails, great grooming, every day and we would love to have you come and play with us.

If you are already Skiking, or want to learn more about Skiking we have demos available.

Murray Wood is a Certified Pedorthist in Orillia ON, and coaches masters skiers in the area...following is what he says about skikes!

I now have had enough time on Skikes that I think I can give a very good perspective on the product.

It's Simple ...here is my summation.

As an avid nordic skier using the skike for off season rollerski training, skike makes training easy and safe. Throughout this fall season I have been coaching and instructing a group of master nordic athletes in preparation for a new winter ski season. As for the instructor on skikes, to be able to stop on hills, maneuver with the athletes safely in drills and just going for a ski, skike is easy to work with. For the masters, all of whom never had been on roller skies before for the off season training, at first always a little tentative, but confidence came quickly. Wet roads and leaves and hills worry anyone on roller skies, but skikes make them easy. The ability to roll over road debris and brake down hills makes skiking fun and safe. As an instructor you can spend time with your athletes on drills for technique and skiing in general instead of drills getting used to equipment. Skike is definitely a product for anyone wishing to have all the skills developed in skate skiing before the snow falls. Enjoy skikes, keep your tire pressure at the 100 psi, wear gloves and a helmet and when on the road a bright reflective vest or jacket...

Have Fun and we shall see you on the trails.

Thanks Murray Wood

Who can skike?.

Skiking is a very versatile sport! You can even use your own shoes, it's friendly on the joints and can be used by every age group. It's a great way to commute to work, for hockey players to work on endurance, as a cross training tool for speed skaters and, when used with poles, is a great way to work the upper body. For those who cross country ski Skike gives an additional advantage when training uphill technique!

Recommended tire pressure is 100 psi. As a strength training aid, increase the rolling resistance by deflating the tire pressure a little bit (95-97 psi).

NOTE: Before using SKIKES, read the manual. Proper fitting is very important.  We reccomend using footwear that gives good ankle support. The front wheel can and must be adjusted according to your shoe size. The heel cup and the toe protector must also be adjusted to the user's shoe size. Pay special attention to the brake mechanism adjustment.  See the manual for detailed setup before use.

Skiking trains the heart and lungs and it it is easy on joints, ligaments, and tendons. And it's a good way to tone your whole body. If that's not enough, you do not need special shoes; just use your nomal sneakers. Finally, skiking is a lot of fun!
